Over 35 Tourist Information Centre Managers from across Yorkshire dropped into Visit York this morning for a tour of the new state-of-the-art Visit York Information Centre.Supported by Yorkshire Forward, the City of York Council, Welcome to Yorkshire, York Conservation Trust and the Business Link Legacy Fund, the new ‘Visit York Information Centre' opened its doors to the public on 27th May, replacing the service which was located at the De Grey Rooms in Exhibition Square.
The highlights of the new centre include the extensive use of digital signage which allows up to the minute information to be displayed for customers, keeping the centre topical and relevant to what is happening in York and Yorkshire. The centre's retail offer also presents a range of locally produced goods including Yorkshire stoneware from Doncaster, handmade wooden toys and gifts from Tom Thumb designs in York, Wolds Way lavender, ceramics from Wold Pottery, chutneys and cakes from Lewis and Cooper in Northallerton ....to name just a few! A dedicated exhibition space in the new centre provides an outlet for promotion of topical additions to the city's tourism offer.
Christine Morton, Visitor Services Manager for Visit York said, "We are delighted to welcome the Yorkshire Tourist Information Centre Managers to York and to have the opportunity to show them around the new Visit York Information Centre. We think that they will be very interested in the design, layout and the innovative way in which we deliver the traditional information services, as well as the use of our audio visual technology and dedicated retail space."
Following a welcome and show round of the new Visit York Information Centre, the group are holding their bi-annual meeting at The Hospitium in Museum Gardens, followed by a tour of the newly-refurbished Yorkshire Museum. The regional meetings take place twice a year at locations around Yorkshire, providing an opportunity for sharing information, news, best practice and to deliver training.
