Issued by York and Scaborough Conferences

York & Scarborough Conferences are treating visitors to three days of luxury at this year's International Confex (1-3 March 2011) as well as showcasing the region's multi-million pound investments from the area including Scarborough Spa's £6.5m refurbishment and a £2m investment in York's iconic Barbican Auditorium, which re-opens in May 2011.

International Confex is the UK's leading event for event organisers who are looking for the perfect destination to host their next business occasion. The exhibition will provide the ideal opportunity to showcase York & Scarborough to an audience of roughly 13,000 delegates and position the region as a leading contender to host meetings, conferences and major events.

Across the three days there will be an action-packed itinerary of events taking place on-stand which will allow delegates to sample what the venues can offer. On the Tuesday, guests can experience vintage afternoon tea courtesy of Cedar Court Grand Hotel & Spa and the National Railway Museum, Wednesday will see York Museums Trust and Hotel Du Vin host a champagne breakfast and in the afternoon, Scarborough Spa and Scarborough hotels will offer locally made chocolates and music from the Spa's saxophonist. As the second day draws to a close, delegates can experience a day at York races with pimms and strawberries hosted by York Racecourse, the Royal York and York Marriot.

Laura Freer, Business Tourism Marketing Manager for York & Scarborough Conferences, said:

"We are really excited about this year's Confex as the region has so much to shout about in terms of new developments and show stopping events spaces. Because York's Barbican Centre and the Scarborough Spa are both opening this year, this offers a superb opportunity to generate new conference business bookings into the region in 2011 and beyond.  These two new venues will act as a catalyst to generate new interest in the area and we're confident that conference buyers will be impressed by the range of venues we have to offer.'
