York & Scarborough Conferences to host unique buyer showcase
08/02/2011
As part of a new marketing drive to boost business tourism to York and Scarborough York & Scarborough Conferences is to host a dynamic venue showcase at York Racecourse's Ebor Stand on Thursday 31 March 2011, exhibiting the best conference and meeting venues the area has to offer.
The showcase will offer the perfect opportunity for conference organisers to meet with venue representatives as well as take part in exclusive site visits across the region. There will also be a unique opportunity for attendees to win a pair of tickets for a memorable trip of their choice on the vintage Art Deco British Pullman or Northern Belle.
Over fifty venues will be exhibiting at the showcase from large, small, historic, sporting and academic, to the unique, classic and contemporary. Some of the key venues included are the National Railway Museum, Cedar Court Grand Hotel & Spa and the brand new state of the art facilities at the Scarborough Spa.
Laura Freer, Business Tourism Marketing Manager for York & Scarborough Conferences, said:
"Buyers will have the opportunity to meet with several venue representatives all in one place as well as the chance to take a closer look at venues through escorted show rounds. With the arrival of York's new Barbican Centre and the Spa at Scarborough we have a stronger conference offer than ever before. By inviting conference organisers from across the UK to see firsthand what York & Scarborough has to offer, we aim to boost business tourism bookings for 2011 and beyond and we're looking forward to welcoming buyers to the region in March."
The showcase will be followed by a two course networking lunch at York Racecourse and buyers will then be invited to take part in afternoon site visits including tours of York venues tailored to the buyers needs. The Showcase will then move across to Scarborough where there will be an evening drinks reception and dinner with accommodation provided. Site visits will also take place in Scarborough and the whole event will be rounded off with a farewell lunch.
If organisers are unable to attend the showcase there will be another opportunity to experience York and Scarborough Conferences at International Confex 2011 (1st - 3rd March). Here, the partnership will be showcasing the region's latest investments and developments including Scarborough Spa's £6.5m refurbishment, scheduled to open in the Spring and a £2m investment in York's iconic Barbican Auditorium, which re-opens in May 2011.
