Visit York Race For Life
24/06/2009
Visit York staff are going for gold at this year's Race for Life in support of Cancer Research UK. With over £500 raised so far, and donations still coming in, the team will be raring to go in the 2.30pm race on Sunday 28th June at the Knavesmire.Staff taking part in the race are: Kate McMullen, Carol Pinder, Rachel Norris, Katie Porter, Michelle Brown, Sophie Packman, Lisa Phillips and Kay Hyde. The team will all be sporting ‘I Love Y' T shirts for the race, designed by Adam Greenwood, a 27 year old filmmaker from City Screen.
The idea for the I "heart" Y t-shirts and website http://www.i-heart-y.co.uk/ came from Adam as a way to promote York's thriving community of filmmakers, artists, musicians and writers:
‘I kind of wanted these t-shirts to be almost a badge of honour for us and for everyone else who feels a pride for this city in the way that the residents of our American namesake do.'
Kay Hyde, PR Manager for Visit York said, ‘Everyone in our team knows someone who has been affected by breast cancer so we're really hoping to help make a difference to the Race for Life campaign. We're grateful to Adam at City Screen for his support in donating our race t shirts and to all sponsors who've donated to us so far.'
2450 women are expected to walk, jog or run the 5k Race for Life in York on Sunday, with every pound raised going towards the world-class research of dedicated scientists, doctors and nurses across the UK who are committed to beating cancer.
