Tourism and Hospitality Careers Receive Boost With New Website

17/02/2010

A new website, jobsinyork.com, which will help tourism and hospitality workers find careers in York, has been launched by the city's tourism body, Visit York, in partnership with Welcome to Yorkshire.

The site, which has been inherited from the York Hospitality Association following its merge with Visit York in 2008, carries all the latest job opportunities and gives workers a comprehensive guide to training courses available in the city.

Sue Frumin, Visit York's Business Engagement Manager, said: "York is one of the UK's leading visitor destinations and has over 10,000 people employed in its tourism sector. To complement such a thriving industry, a dedicated recruitment website was required to help our partners find the best staff and to help tourism and hospitality workers land the perfect job."

Jobsinyork.com is populated by Visit York's 630 tourism and hospitality partners. Hotels, museums and galleries, restaurants, retail outlets and even taxi companies, can log on to the site and upload their vacancies into a tailored search system free of charge.

In partnership with Kings Safety Training, First Rescue and Harmony House Cookery School, jobsinyork.com also lists a host of practical training courses to help progress tourism and hospitality careers. Examples of courses include food safety, first aid and food hygiene which can all be carried out on or off-site to suit work schedules.

jobsinyork.com already hosts a range of jobs from Visit York partners including Browns of York, Betty's Café Tea Rooms, the National Railway Museum and the Hilton York, to name a few. Visitor centre managers, sales consultants, waiting staff and housekeepers are just some of the hundreds of jobs advertised on the website.

Michael Hjort, chef proprietor at Melton's and Melton's Too in York, comments: "This is an incredibly effective mechanism for hospitality establishments and visitor attractions. Businesses now have the opportunity to search for the best candidates through a site which is highly targeted and above all, free to use.

"We have used jobsinyork.com to fill various vacancies recently and, thanks to its accessibility and ease of use, we will definitely be promoting all future opportunities through it."  ENDS
