Last call for cabbies' tourism training day

12/02/2010

York taxi and bus drivers have been invited to take part in a tourism training day organised by Visit York in association with the York Taxi Association and the City of York Council.

The free event, which takes place on Monday 15 February 2010 from 9am to 11am at The Monkbar Hotel, St Maurice's Road, will be an opportunity for drivers to update, sharpen and refresh their already vast knowledge of the city.  Organisers will be laying on a complimentary bacon butty breakfast for those attending.

Presented by Chris Morton, Visitor Services Manager at the York Visitor Information Centre and Keith Mulhearn, York Tour Guide, taxi and bus drivers will be able to pick up a host of useful and fascinating facts on the city's history, its wealth of attractions and news on new exhibitions for 2010, which will put them in top gear when helping passengers who are visiting York.

On completion of a short test, drivers will then be given an accredited sign to put in the window of their vehicle which shows they are able to talk knowledgably on everything the city has to offer.

Sue Frumin, Visit York's Business Development Manager, said: "Taxi and bus drivers are often the first port of call for visitors when they arrive in the city so getting first hand tips on how to get around and what to see gets their stay off to a great start.  Taxi and bus drivers do an important job in welcoming visitors - we hope as many taxi and bus drivers can come to the event as possible and find out the latest news from across the city.'  ENDS
