GRANTS Available to Help Businesses Hit by Recent Flooding

Grant support is now available to flooded businesses and farmers in York, North Yorkshire and East Riding.

To help with the clean-up, temporary relocation and activities to resume trading, flooded businesses are eligible for grants of up to £2,500 and up to three months Business Rate Relief.

To help farmers with their recovery, grants from £500 to £20,000 are also available.

The grants are funded by government. Small and medium sized businesses in York and North Yorkshire can apply for a grant to Make It York, who are administering the funds on behalf of councils in York and North Yorkshire and the Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP). Farmers need to apply direct to the Rural Payments Agency.

Pledging to do everything he could to help, David Kerfoot, Deputy Chairman of the York, North Yorkshire and East Riding LEP, said:

“Having run my own business for many years, I understand what a testing time this is for business. We can help businesses resume trading again as soon as possible financially and by signposting them to the information they need.

“We are advising businesses and farmers to take advantage of the grants on offer. The regulators, such as Council’s Environmental Health, the Health & Safety Executive and Food Standards Agency can also help and should be contacted if they are relevant to your business. Their priority is to help get you trading safely and legally as soon as possible.”

Steve Brown, Managing Director at Make It York said, ‘We’re committed to doing all we can to help those businesses directly affected to get back up and trading as soon as possible. It’s also crucial that we communicate far and wide our York open for business message to minimise any longer term impact for our business community.’

A grant application form and accompanying guidance is available on the Local Enterprise Partnership website at or by emailing
