Venturefest Yorkshire 2011: The Show must - and will - go on

03/12/2010

Organisers of the region's biggest event for science, technology and knowledge based entrepreneurs have confirmed that ‘the show will go on' in 2011.

And their views are substantiated in an independent report that shows Venturefest is "too valuable" to the region to lose.

The report on Venturefest Yorkshire's economic impact was commissioned by Yorkshire Forward earlier this year as a review of its seven-year investment in the event.  The findings demonstrate business generation valued at £2.5 million and show that Venturefest Yorkshire has secured more than 200 jobs in the region.

Organisers say that plans for next year's event are well underway despite funding uncertainties brought about by last week's spending review.

Venturefest chairman, Professor Tony Hardy, says: "It's true that public sector funding has played a key role in delivering Venturefest Yorkshire in previous years.  But behind the scenes we have been working hard to maintain reserves and develop private sector backing with a view to, ultimately, making the event self-sustainable.

"This has put us in a strong position and plans for Venturefest Yorkshire 2011 are full steam ahead.

"A core part of this year's strategy is to pursue additional private income streams to ensure we deliver an event that will support the outstanding entrepreneurs who make this region one of the most exciting places to do business and help them secure the contacts and investment they need to take their ventures to the next level.

"We already have key sponsors confirmed and exhibitors, delegates and speakers lining up to take part.

"The findings of the Yorkshire Forward report have shown that Venturefest delivers real value to the regional economy and it is simply too valuable to lose.  This is fuelling our drive and commitment to ensuring that the 2011 event rivals previous years' shows and continues to be a great success."

One of the key income streams for 2011 will be the Venturefest "100 Club".  The first 100 supporters to sign up for VIP status will receive free tickets to the networking breakfast, evening dinner and awards ceremony as well as profile for their organisation through the Venturefest Yorkshire website, a VIP car parking place and fast track entry on the day.

Venturefest Yorkshire will take place at York Racecourse on 16 February 2011.
