Stillingfleet Lodge Gardens- Birds and Bees, Mice and Men!

12/01/2012

Birds, bees and mice are all vital to a healthy ecosystem and we can all contribute to improving the environment by doing our bit in the garden.

In advance of the 2012 National Insect Week, Vanessa Cook of Stillingfleet Lodge Gardens will be holding a conservation open day on 16th June at her garden near York. The day is an ideal opportunity to find out about conservation groups in Yorkshire and to find out how you can make small changes in the garden to encourage wildlife to visit your garden.

The day will start with a workshop to teach you how to plant a wildflower meadow. This course will be led by senior partner of MAB Environment & Ecology Ltd, Ione Bareau. It has limited places so booking is essential.

In the afternoon a variety of local conservation groups, including Church Fenton wildlife group, Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, Butterfly Conservation Society, Lindum Turf, Bumble Bee Conservation Trust, Barn Owl Trust and the Bat Conservation Trust will all have displays. Come along and quiz the experts on how you can help wildlife and see conservation in practice in Stillingfleet Lodge Gardens.
The Garden includes a pond and wildflower meadow and is managed sustainably, which led to a short-listing in the York Press Think Green Business Awards in 2011.

The workshop cost is £25 and you can book via the website at www.stillingfleetlodgegarden.co.uk  or by phoning 01904 728506.

Regular garden admission price of £4.50 applies for the Conservation Afternoon (under 16s 50p). Light refreshments and a plant nursery are also available on-site.
