York's First Mini-May Food and Drink Festival-Sat 28th & Sun 29th May 2011
19/04/2011
Issued by York Food and Drink Festival
This first mini May York Food Festival is a weekend taster market of real Yorkshire food and drink to celebrate the best of Yorkshire's great meat, game, fruit, vegetables, beer, cheese and much more. As always, the market will provide a stage for some of Yorkshire's finest produce from some of our smaller producers.
Throughout the weekend, we'll be celebrating not only the arrival of tender local Sand-Hutton Asparagus but also English Wine Week including an introduction to wines from Heart Vineyard, located just outside the city of York.
The Festival Market will run all day and feature a wide range of local seasonal produce. Regular favourites, such as the Demonstration Area, where Yorkshire's Celebrity Chefs including Ashley McCarthy of The Sun Inn, Colton, will demonstrate how to create succulent recipes easily. Meet local cheese-maker, Tom Wallace of Lowna Dairy and try before you buy a wonderful range of Yorkshire cheeses. The licensed café will provide visitors with an opportunity to relax, whilst enjoying a drink and perhaps tasting a local speciality for the first time. Both the bar and the menu will include local products.
York's historic attraction, the 18 th Century Mansion House is a natural venue for the informal dinner which will be hosted there on Saturday evening, 28 th May. Guests will be able to dine with the Lord Mayor at his table and enjoy a specially prepared dinner of regional seasonal food prepared by Michael Hjort of Melton's Restaurant in York.
