10,000 cyclists head for the York Cycle Show during Bike Week

On 25 - 26 June, families in York will be having fun, getting fit and feeling free at the York Cycle Show, one of the highlights in the UK cycling calendar and the grand finale to national Bike Week with thousands of events taking place up and down the UK. Local residents can bring their bikes to be security coded by York Police, as part of "Operation Spoke."
10,000 visitors are expected to come to the York Cycle Show at the City's Racecourse. The Show offers a huge a range of activities over the weekend for novice cyclists to experts including:
• Appearance and talk by Paralympic Gold Medal cyclist David Stone.
• Savage Skills Mountain bike stunt show,
• Arena displays, tryout areas and exhibitions.
• Vintage bikes.
• CTC's Ron Kitching Challenge Ride
• Day rides
• Saddlebag sale of second hand bike bits
• Bike auction.
• Saddlebag Sale of second hand parts.
• Children's (and grown ups) entertainers
• On Sunday at 0945 there will be a Grand Cycle Parade through York from the Minster, after a special 0900 service for cyclists.
• On-site camping & caravan spaces available
• Real ale bar
• Food stalls
• Giant inflatables, Climbing Wall and Bungee jump.
Chair of the York Cycle Show Committee, Paul Hepworth says: "The Show is one of the biggest national events for cyclists. Since it started in 1945, it has encouraged thousands to pedal for pleasure. If you are a cyclist or you want start cycling it is a great place to get information, advice and a bike plus accessories and clothing at bargain prices. There's also a range of guided rides around York to suit every cyclist. We hope that by taking part in our Bike Week event, families will beat the credit crunch plus the health crunch, rediscover how much fun cycling is and will be encouraged to keep cycling the whole year round."
Admission to the York Cycle Show is £3 adults and £2 for 5-16 year olds. (Under 5's free). Family group discounts. This includes entry to the Trade marquees.
