Ghoulish goings on in York this October
21/10/2010
Three of York's oldest sites are revisiting their past and playing host to a spine-chilling series of events this Halloween.York Archaeological Trust has organised a spooky programme of events to be held at Micklegate Bar Museum and medieval Barley Hall and is working with City of York
Council to promote York Mansion House's Halloween event at the end of October.
Micklegate Bar Museum's Ghoul School for children aged between 7 and 12 will invite youngsters to prepare for Halloween and make revolting and gory props. Visitors will also learn about Micklegate Bar's haunted tales and find out for themselves if Sarah, the resident ghost, really does haunt the former gatehouse.
A first for York, Barley Hall will be transformed into a Haunted Hall where visitors will be led around the darkest depths of the candlelit medieval town house by the expert ghost guide. Visitors beware as organisers warn you never know who, or what, is looming in the shadows. In addition, York's grandest residence - York Mansion House - will be exposing its more murky secrets with an eerie tour by candlelight at the Ghost Tour of York Mansion House. Pre-booking is essential for the Barley Hall and Mansion House evening events through http://www.jorvikbookings.com/.
Says Sarah Maltby, director of attractions at York Archaeological Trust, "This programme of events will definitely give the thrill seeking of visitors a Halloween to remember. Each venue comes with its own interesting past and chilling tales and we want to bring that to life in more unconventional way."
