12/08/2011
A unique opportunity for tourism businesses to tap into the Entente Cordiale and its very special association with York. The inauguration of the first French memorial in an English Cathedral by the RAF, French Air Force and Yorkshire Air Museum & Allied Air Forces Memorial is the centre of a whole week of business, educational and memorial activities which will also highlight the huge potential for French visitors to see York as an special tourist destination.
Over 2500 French airmen were based in York (then known as Petit France) during the War. York is seen as a significant location in modern French history and the relatives of these young men now runs into tens of thousands of French people with a direct personal link to the city. Many companies based in York have a French connection either by name or ownership but this won't preclude any company, restaurant, hotel, guest house or attraction from benefiting from this very special connection, which has the potential to be an annual attraction for the City.
Martin Turner, Head of Sales for East Coast trains said; "The journey from France to York, via Eurostar and East Coast trains, is simple and convenient. East Coast is delighted to help promote this very special opportunity for the city, and to welcoming tourists and invited guests on-board its trains as they travel to it."
