City of York Council's Libraries are on track to uncover a thrilling 2011 Big City Read with The Lost Luggage Porter by York-born Andrew Martin.
This annual literary event brings the city together by reading the same book and sharing events celebrating the chosen novel.
This year, residents are being invited to read a transport crime thriller penned by local-born and educated Andrew Martin. His novel The Lost Luggage Porter is part of a series on the exploits of railway detective Jim Stringer, set in a shady Yorkshire underworld.
Cllr Sonja Crisp, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Culture and Social Inclusion, said:" I'm really excited to announce that this year's chosen novel is written by a York -born author and is set in Yorkshire too. The Lost Luggage Porter is full of intrigue and is so apt for York with its strong railway links and history."
Copies of The Lost Luggage Porter will be available from all libraries from Wednesday 20 July, and from York City Football Club vs. Bolton Wanderers at Bootham Crescent on Saturday 6 August.
To complement the book and celebrate York's rich railway heritage, a fantastic series of events for all ages will capture the city's vibrant Edwardian past. Residents can explore the railway, historic pubs, chocolate industry and Edwardian culinaria with local experts.
