York gets set for City centre cycling races

12/08/2011

Following the success of Clifton CC's recent road race on July the 10th, the club are joining with York City Council to raise the bar for the sport of cycling in York.

On the 21st August 2011 - Clifton CC will be organising the second annual York Cycling City Races. With the York Minster as a spectacular backdrop, top riders from across the nation will be battling it out over a closed course which includes Blake Street, St.Sampson's Square and Goodramgate, before sweeping past the Minster to complete the lap at Duncombe Place.

Events will begin at 5pm with the entertaining Brompton Team challenge - this is being organised by Andy Fraser at York Cycleworks - (info & entry forms from the shop or fraz@yorkcycleworks.com) . This race was a great success last year with teams from local businesses taking part, striving to not only cross the line first, but also fold their bikes successfully to complete the race!

This will be followed by a youth race & also a race for club cyclists, which is a chance for local riders, including some of the Clifton Cycling club's own to take part.

The Elite race follows at 7pm and will run for an hour, before the final prizegiving at 8.15.
What's more = York City screen will be screening Vittorio De Sica's 1948 masterpiece The Bicycle Thieves at 8.30 after the final prizegiving.

The day will provide racing for cycling enthusiasts, local riders, and will be a fantastic spectacle for everyone who wants to watch. Clifton Cycling club will be on hand to answer questions and encourage anyone who wants to get into this ever growing sport.
