Record number of visitors find their way to York Maze
15/09/2009
The gates to York Maze closed last week at the end of what owner Tom Pearcy is heralding as his busiest season ever.Says Tom Pearcy, "This year's space themed maze really seems to have taken off! We had 80,000 visitors get lost in the maze this summer, which is a 50% increase on last year, making 2009 our busiest year ever."
Tom Pearcy believes that continued investment in the site, the credit crunch, slightly better weather, and increased marketing are all contributory factors to York Maze's growing success.
"We have spent a lot of money on improving visitor facilities and adding new attractions. With the new café, farm animals, children's play areas, tractor-trailer rides and other attractions, a visit to York Maze is now a complete family day out. I think the credit crunch means more people stayed at home this year looking for good value days out, which is exactly what York Maze offers.
"Undoubtedly the weather has an impact. Although we didn't get the barbecue summer we were promised, in fact we have had fewer rainy days this year compared to the last two years. We have also increased our marketing effort with TV advertising in Yorkshire and the North East.
We certainly seem to be offering what the public are looking for in a day out. 80,000 visitors in seven weeks must make us one of the most popular summer attractions in Yorkshire. ENDS
