You've seen the Royal Academy exhibition. Now experience David Hockney RA's landscapes first hand with York-based SCOOT's unique cycling holiday, ‘Hockney's Bigger Ride'
Hockney himself first experienced the East Yorkshire countryside by bike. Cycling through Millington Dale, he felt the undulations and enjoyed the big skies of the area that he would later come to paint. As you take in the panoramic views for yourself, you will soon recognise the inspiration for pictures such as Garrowby Hill, Woldgate Woods and Bigger Trees at Warter.
Starting in Bridlington, the home of Hockney's current studio, ‘Hockney's Bigger Ride' takes you on a four-night cycle trip through Woldgate, Sledmere, Thixendale, Millington Dale, Warter and into York. Art lovers can trace Hockney's inspirational journey through the area, gaining a real sense of the space, changing light, and stunning scenery around them. On the final day there is a trip to Salt's Mill where much of Hockney's work is permanently exhibited.
SCOOT's ‘Bigger Ride' doesn't just cater for your artistic needs, either. Your holiday includes all accommodation, maps and instructions, luggage transfer, and cycling equipment (including bikes!) You will be met and greeted by a SCOOT team member at the start and finish of your journey, and all your luggage will be transported for you - leaving you free to enjoy your Hockney pilgrimage unencumbered.
