JORVIK goes back to the 80s
22/04/2009
Issued by: JORVIK Viking Centre
To celebrate its 25th birthday, JORVIK Viking Centre is offering York residents 1984 admission prices on the 1st of each month from May 2009 to February 2010.
Prices will be reduced from £8.50 to £2 for adults and from £7 to £1 for concessions.
Located on the site of one of modern archaeology's most famous discoveries, the Viking Centre has welcomed more than 15 million visitors since it first opened its doors in 1984.
York Archaeological Trust - the people behind the world-famous visitor attraction - have launched a year-long programme of events to celebrate its history and success.
In addition to the special prices, York residents and visitors are invited to celebrate with JORVIK at its carnival style street party on 4th May between 11.00am and 3.30pm in Coppergate.
Stilt walkers, unicyclists and Viking warriors will entertain the crowds, who are also invited to join in with birthday party games such as Viking musical statues, pin the beard on the Viking and giant pass the parcel. York's master story teller will be delivering theatrical tales of Viking bravery throughout the day and inviting party-goers to join in his unique style of pavement poetry. Children can contribute to a giant birthday card and everyone is welcome to celebrate with a piece of JORVIK's huge birthday cake.
