News release - Issued by York Minster
York Minster will stay open late into the evening on 22 November for Threshold – one of a series of unique services scheduled to take place on Sundays in the coming months.
Threshold services aim to provide an alternative format for worship and are open to anyone and everyone curious about faith, worship, exploring belief and how to find and know Christ.
The services are held after hours at York Minster - a special time of day when stillness falls across the building’s cavernous spaces. The theme of this week’s service is Christ the King which challenges us to consider the nature of power and authority as manifested in the life of Jesus Christ.
Sunday’s service will include contemplative music by the Ebor singers and by local musician Helen Warry. Quiet spaces will be available for those seeking solitude and prayer stations will be set up around the Minster, providing opportunities for meditation and reflection on what it means to be called by Christ and what it means to embark on a spiritual journey.
The Threshold Service will be held on Sunday 22 November from 7.30pm until 9.30pm. Entry to the Minster will be the South Door (at Deangate).
The first Threshold service for 2016 will be on Sunday 17 January with more dates to follow.
