News release - Issued by North Yorkshire Moors Railway
Families and especially those with young children are in for a treat this Christmas as the North Yorkshire Moors Railway gears up for the festive period.
Enchanting stations along the line which depict a bygone era are adding that extra sparkle with decorated Christmas trees and fairy lights thanks to the efforts of Santa’s little helpers, namely the many volunteers who help to keep the Railway running. A nativity scene will feature at Grosmont whilst children looking for a meet with Santa will not be disappointed.
The Railway is running a number of Santa Special excursions on the weekends of 28 and 29 November, 5 and 6 December, 12 and 13 December and 19 and 20 December. Most trains will depart from Pickering and Grosmont but some will also depart from Whitby. Each journey will last approximately one hour.
Included in the price of £16 per person is an hour-long railway journey, a hot drink and locally-baked mince pie, an activity pack for each child, and a visit to Santa in his on-board grotto with an age-related present for each child.
Chris Price, Managing Director of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, said: "With only a matter of weeks to go before Christmas, our stations and railway excursions amidst the North York Moors National Park are the perfect backdrop and start point for families looking for an enjoyable, day out in the run up to the festive season. Set within beautiful countryside, the Railway is able to provide a means by which families can share a day out and introduce their children to Santa and to the magic of steam-powered locomotion. I would urge anyone wanting to take up the opportunity to book well in advance due to anticipated demand.”
For large groups or families with young children who might not be ready for a visit to the on-board grotto, the Railway is also running two Santa Elf Trains. One departs Pickering on 21 December, the other departs Grosmont on 22 December. Tickets for these trains are priced at £20 per person in which Santa moves down the train to make a personal visit to each child and family.
