The iconic Royal York Hotel has marked its re-launch with a lavish party for 250 guests, following a complete renovation to restore the building to its former glory.
The Lord Mayor of York, Councillor Sonja Crisp, was guest of honour at the event, joining General Manager Richard Mansell, Principal Hayley Group’s David Taylor, key stakeholders and a host of local and national corporate clients, agents, local partners and hotel guests.
Designed in ‘house party’ style to showcase all areas of the remodelled space, the event payed homage to the hotel’s heritage as York’s ‘grande dame’ railway station hotel, dating back to 1878. On arrival, party guests were greeted by members of the hotel team dressed as train conductors, who handed out a “programme” for the evening designed in the style of vintage train tickets. Guests used these tickets as a guide to the party, moving from bedrooms to public spaces to the restaurant and bar, each space offering a different experience, as well as plenty to eat and drink.
Guest Ian P Whiteley, Divisional Director (Expo) for CMM Events, commented: “The Royal York is now a flagship hotel for the North of England. The ‘grand dame’ of York is now at the outset of a new era of greatness; new General Manager, new Chef, totally and tastefully refurbished to a unique blend of contemporary luxury with nods to its history. I fully expect visitors from all corners of the globe will be talking about it; it’s a hotel that makes you proud to be British.”
The party took place in the newly restored Garden Room as well as the new Refectory Kitchen & Terrace, Chapter House bar and across show bedrooms and suites, as well as the impressive Oak Room and Events Centre.
Guests of the party drank Lanson Champagne, cocktails including the ‘Yorkshire Lavender Martini’ and the ‘Duke of York’ and cask ale from York Brewery. A range of canapes and Yorkshire ‘bar bites’, with bacon rolls at midnight.
The event was held on Thursday 10th March.
