York Racecourse Announces Headline Music Act

Delighted to be back performing together, The Corrs have been announced as the headline act for the Saturday 23rd July when they will play York Races after the sporting action as part of the popular Music Showcase Weekend at the track.

The family quartet are famous for their sound, a unique and enchanting mix of traditional Celtic music with a pop rock twist that has led to number one singles such as Breathless, more than 30 million album sales, a Britt Award and countless other critical and popular awards. A decision to focus on family life and solo careers saw a hiatus of a decade in their shared musical careers but returning to the stage in the last twelve months they have already headlined the BBC Radio 2 concert in Hyde Park, delivered a successful Arena Tour and witnessed the success of their sixth album, White Light. The Knavesmire crowd has a lot to look forward to after they have enjoyed the seven races.

Speaking about their appearance, lead vocalist, Andrea Corr said; ‘We love open-air summer shows, so are really looking forward to playing York Racecourse after the races. We had a fantastic time touring our new album ‘White Light’ at the start of the year so can’t wait to get back on the road to perform all our hits for a few familiar faces and more this summer.’

To book visit; admission to the main Grandstand and Paddock enclosure, starts at just £22 per person for a group of six.* Accompanied under 18s are admitted free of charge and as well as free car parking, there are no booking fees.

On the racecourse itself, the racing action will include the Sky Bet York Stakes, a Group Two contest that attracts a field from the top stables for this middle distance contest.

It promises to be a fun filled 24 hours for racing and music fans as the previous evening, Friday 22 July, the combination of top class racing and live music will have commenced with the EBF Lyric Fillies Stakes being the centerpiece of a six race card.

The music act for the Friday evening remains a closely guarded secret so keep checking the course’s website for further announcements

These are integrated events and admission is not available on a "concert only" basis; indeed the gates will be closed at the time of the last race.

* With the group of six discount applied, advance booked admission to Grandstand and Paddock is £22 per person, the same size group in County Stand is £35.50 per person. An individual can advance book at £36 for County Stand and £23 for Grandstand and Paddock. The Course Enclosure is only available for sale on the day at £10 however does not offer the opportunity of getting close to the stage itself, though it is in sight.

This is an outdoor concert. To get closest to the stage, visitors will need to have either a County Stand or Grandstand & Paddock admission. The position of the stage for 2016 is as recent years, at the southern end of Bustardthorpe Lawn on the main grandstand side. It is at about the one furlong mark, some 20 metres from the track facing parallel to the direction of running. The elevation of Knavesmire Stand steppings offers a view over the stage and the angle permits viewing of races and stage from the County Stand Lawn. We will make good use of the giant screens for both racing and concert viewing. Please note in order to get closest to the stage racegoers will need to book entry to County Stand or Grandstand & Paddock; thereafter there are no reserved positions. Please note the price of admission reflects the wider facilities provided for the duration of the raceday and does not reflect a reserved position nor preferential view of the stage.
