News Release - Issued by York Theatre Royal

Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice Names a Seat at York Theatre Royal

York Theatre Royal’s patron Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice of York joined in with the theatre’s fundraising effort during her visit at the start of December, as she was photographed with a seat named in her honour to raise awareness of the Theatre’s Name a Seat campaign.

The Name a Seat campaign is a unique and personal way to support York Theatre Royal. Seats cost £300 and will help the theatre raise the last £500,000 needed towards the £4.1million re-development taking place in 2015. Naming a seat can also be paid in instalments of just £25 a month over 12 months.

Princess Beatrice was thrilled with her seat, which can be found in the stalls, and, like all seats named in someone’s honour, the seat now features a personalised plaque. The princess was also presented with a duplicate of the seat plaque in a frame alongside this year’s pantomime programme front cover.

We were delighted to have the opportunity to present Princess Beatrice with her own seat during her visit, and hope this will raise further awareness of our fundraising campaign. As part of the theatre’s transformation, we are offering our audiences and friends the chance to personalise a part of the theatre by naming a seat in the newly decorated auditorium, and hope Princess Beatrice’s involvement will inspire others to become part of the theatre’s history said Liz Wilson, Chief Executive of the theatre.

York Theatre Royal will close its doors in March 2015 for 8 months as the theatre improves access to the auditorium, re-vamps it’s foyer and café to increase space by 100%, replaces it’s stage with a new modular version, and re-configures and replaces seating in the auditorium so that it is more comfortable. People who name a seat before this time will have their plaques put on their new seats once the building re-opens.

To name a seat contact go online to or call the Box Office on 01904 623568.
