The perfect present – see the Mystery Plays in 2016!

If you’re struggling for gift ideas this Christmas, York Minster may have the perfect present – the chance to see the cathedral’s production of the Mystery Plays in 2016.

Special festive gift vouchers - which can be used to purchase tickets for the famous Plays when they go on sale in January – are now available from the York Minster shop.

The Minster’s cavernous Nave will be transformed into a 1000-seater auditorium for the performances, which run from 26 May to 30 June next year and promise colour, spectacle and passion on a monumental scale.

“There’s already lots of excitement about the Plays returning to the Minster next summer for the first time in 16 years,” explains the Plays’ Producer, Nicola Corp. “A member of the congregation suggested a Christmas voucher to go and see the landmark production would make the perfect Christmas gift, which we thought was a fantastic idea, so we’ve produced a limited run exclusively for the production.”

In keeping with tradition, a talented community cast will be at the heart of the Minster’s production with just one professional actor, and auditions are currently taking place to decide the stars of the show.

The gift vouchers are only available to purchase for a limited period – until 2pm on Christmas Eve - from the York Minster Shops located inside the Minster and next to the South Piazza, at 9 Minster Gates.

The vouchers are priced at £25 and £40 and can be redeemed when tickets for the performances go on sale at 9.30am on Wednesday 13 January. Tickets for evening performances will be priced at £25, £32.50 and £40, with tickets for the twice weekly matinees available from £15, and vouchers can be used as full or part payment.
