200 single men and women looking for love took part in the first ever dating event to be held on a train today, as the East Coast Love Train made a return day trip from London’s King’s Cross station to York – with

DJ Scott Mills joined lucky love seekers from across London and the South East for the unique dating event, which was arranged by East Coast trains and online dating website Match.com.

Scott Mills said: “A singles dating event on a train - what’s not to love! It was really exciting to roam the carriages of the Love Train and play matchmaker, helping people looking for love to find their perfect partner.”

The East Coast Love Train received an overwhelming response from Match.com members, and follows a recent survey of travellers by East Coast, which found one in ten people had found love and romance during a journey by train – more than on the roads or in the air.

East Coast Head of Marketing Natalie Cowen said: “Hot on the heels of our successful ‘I Love Trains Week’ campaign, this fun event was about having a great time and meeting new people, while finding out why travelling with East Coast is the way to go.

“Scott Mills was a fantastic host, dancing up and down the carriages of this very special train – and maybe, just maybe, he has helped one or two people to find their perfect partner, too!”

Upon arrival in York, the love hopefuls enjoyed fun activities arranged with the help of Visit York, who actively market the historic city on its romantic credentials, showcasing some of the highlights on offer.

Located less than two hours from London on the East Coast Main Line route, York is a natural choice for love-struck Londoners, with more couples tying the knot in the romantic Yorkshire city than anywhere else in Britain.

Match.com managing director Karl Gregory said: “We regularly run activity based events for our lovely singles as we know that shared interests are a great icebreaker. With the variety of entertainment and activities throughout the day, our members had a great time with East Coast Trains!”
