News release - Issued by Kirkbymoorside CP School

Totally Tropical Time Planned for Summer Fair

There are plenty of prizes to be won and fun to be had at this year’s Kirkbymoorside Primary School Summer Fair, which takes place on Saturday 25 June from 2 – 4pm. Organised by the Friends of Kirkbymoorside School, this year’s summer fair has an Hawaiian theme with hula-hoop and limbo competitions plus a human fruit machine! Entry to the fair is free.

One of the main fundraising events for the school, the Summer Fair is made possible thanks to the generous support of local businesses. Companies who have so far donated prizes to the raffle include Flamingo Land, Dalby Forest, St Alban’s Centre, North York Moors National Park Authority, HSBC (Kirkbymoorside branch) and Morrisons (Malton).

In addition to Hawaiian-themed games, the fair will also include traditional favourites such as hook a duck, a bouncy castle, face and nail painting and tombola. There will be a BBQ and plenty of refreshments plus a variety of stalls selling sweets, plants and toys. Local fitness instructor Andy Gamble is organising an obstacle course and no fair would be complete without a spot of welly wanging!

Year Six pupils from the school will be running their own stalls and competitions with games they have planned themselves and there will be music from the school band and choir, plus dancing by Miss Sarah Louise Ashworth’s School of Dance.

Laura Dearness, Chair of the Friends of Kirkbymoorside School, said:

“The Summer Fair is always a fantastic afternoon of fun for all the family so dig out your loud shirt and start practising your limbo skills for what we anticipate will be a hotly contested event! Our thanks go to all the businesses for the wonderful prizes they have donated.”

The Friends of Kirkbymoorside School is a small charity run by parents of the school. It organises a variety of events throughout the year to fundraise for resources for pupils at the school. Money raised at previous events has provided new outdoor play equipment and has also paid for swimming lessons and buses for school trips.
