News Release – Issued by York Racecourse
The Beach Boys are to perform on Friday evening 25 July at York Races, it was announced today.
The Beach Boys have often been called "America's Band" and have sold in excess of 100 million records worldwide; they will take to the stage after racing on the opening day of the hugely popular Music Showcase Weekend, which combines top quality sport and music.
Tickets for the evening’s racing followed by an open-air concert by The Beach Boys went on sale today, starting from just £20 per person as part of a group, with accompanied children free of charge.
James Brennan, Head of Marketing and Sponsorship at York Racecourse, said: “The Beach Boys have provided the soundtrack to the summer with hits like California Girls, Help Me Rhonda and I Get Around; so there is a real treat in store for racing and music fans alike..”
"When combined with some of the best thoroughbreds in the country, we believe we're on to a winner by attracting them. They have performed live to 750,000 people at the Washington Monument and have sold over 100 million records, so it should be something special”
The group, still fronted by co-founder Mike Love, will play on a giant trackside stage after the final race has finished. With over eighty chart records to choose from, the set list could also include; Good Vibrations, Little Deuce Coupe, Sloop John B, Surfin’ USA, Fun Fun Fun, God Only Knows and Wouldn’t It Be Nice.
Successful all male bands are a theme this year at York as Saturday 26 July sees Wet Wet Wet, one of the UK’s most popular artists perform after racing.
Tickets for both the Beach Boys and Wet Wet Wet at York Racecourse are now on sale at yorkracecourse.co.uk or by telephone on 01904 620911.
