News Release - Issued by The Black Swan at Helmsley

‘Flora and Fauna’
~ come and explore nature from your base at The Black Swan

A short stay in Helmsley, in the bountiful terrain of ‘God’s own country’ as Yorkshire is often referred, truly is a tonic for the soul. As you journey here, the views over rolling countryside and undulating hills are a feast for the eyes, a patchwork of natural hues, craggy outcrops, dry stone walling; depending on your chosen approach a mystical chalk horse, or purple moorlands, depending on your chosen approach.

Unsurprising, that The Black Swan in the heart of picturesque Helmsley, is a superb location for exploring nature. This summer we have a two-night ‘Flora and Fauna stay’ offering midweek guests, complimentary entry passes to two visitor attractions on our doorstep - Helmsley Walled Gardens and the International Centre for Birds of Prey at Duncombe Park.

At the foot of the North York Moors and in the shadow of the historic Helmsley Castle, Helmsley Walled Garden is a 250 year old walled garden, which has been lovingly brought back to life from dereliction. Set in over 5 acres, the gardens are a peaceful place to discover and relax. Operating as a charity, the gardens support disabled, depressed, socially isolated and long term unemployed people with horticultural therapy to aid their mental and physical wellbeing. The gardens were recently mentioned by Red magazine as ‘one of the prettiest spring gardens to visit in the UK.’

The International Centre for Birds of Prey which has just celebrated its second birthday is located just outside Helmsley in the beautiful grounds of historic estate, Duncombe Park. Here you can see the birds flying free against the spectacular backdrop of the country house and surrounding parkland. There are three demonstrations per day, which each showcase different birds of prey such as owls, falcons and eagles, giving visitors the opportunity to get to know more about them.

The two night package is priced at £148 per person, and includes:

- Two night’s a Classic double or twin bedroom
- Full English breakfast both mornings
- Admission in to Helmsley Walled Gardens
- Admission to The International Centre for Birds of Prey

For more information on both attractions, please visit their websites:
