News release - Issued by York's Chocolate Story
Calling all Yorkies to King’s Square this February Half-Term
YORKIE is 40! The city’s signature chocolate bar is celebrating its 40th birthday this year and York’s Chocolate Story will be leading the celebrations by recreating one of York’s most beloved retro signs.
Until the early nineties, trains arriving at York railway station would pass the iconic billboard which read "Welcome to YORK(IE) – Where the Men are Hunky and the Chocolate’s Chunky”.
A representative from York’s Chocolate Story says: “I used to look out for the YORKIE sign from the train. When I saw it, I knew I was home. When we reached out to find out more on social media we were inundated with comments from people who were keen to share their fond memories of the sign.”
York’s Chocolate Story are recreating this iconic billboard to mark YORKIE’s 40th birthday. It will be standing in King’s Square throughout February half term (13th – 21st). The sign will be 9ft wide so will be a fantastic opportunity for a photo opportunity for local residents and visitors to the city.
There will also be YORKIE giveaways in the square, while visitors to the attraction itself will be treated to interesting YORKIE facts on the fully guided tour.
