There’s a fantastic range of family activities to be enjoyed this summer at York’s CHOCOLATE Story (Saturday 19 July – Sunday 31 August) from themed trails and seasonal surprises to creating your very own chocolate bar. Get acquainted with York’s chocolate heritage and learn about the little-known but important role of chocolate throughout the Great War at our new exhibition, WW1: A Taste of Home.
It’s the place to be for interactive family fun with an educational twist. Get creative and produce your own chocolate masterpiece, discover York’s chocolate past and learn how to taste chocolate like an expert. Vote for your favourite chocolate bar and submit your own unique recipe - our Chocolatier’s may even pick your invention to make and stock in our tasty shop; you could join York’s chocolate greats!
The café at York’s CHOCOLATE Story is also gearing up for a sunny summer. Cool down with a scoop of locally sourced ice cream from Ryeburn of Helmsley or quench your thirst with a moreish milkshake.

York's CHOCOLATE Story, located in the heart of York, is an entertaining and informative guided tour through the history of York's most famous chocolate-making families and their finest creations. You'll discover chocolate's origins, how to make it, how to taste it like an expert and even the sustainable future of chocolate.
The attraction is divided into three key zones for visitors:
Story Zone - the journey begins thousands of years ago in the rainforests of Central America and continues through the history of chocolate’s founding families and the fascinating facts behind their finest creations.
Factory Zone - learn how a simple cocoa bean is transformed into the finest chocolate, and take a look at the history of York’s most iconic chocolate brands. Then master the secrets of the chocolatier, as you create hand-made chocolates for yourself, before seeing how the experts do it.
The Indulgence Zone - put new knowledge into practice and choose from a selection of chocolate drinks and treats in the Chocolate Café and Shop.
