News Release - Issued by York Chocolate Story

Experience chocolate in a new light

York’s CHOCOLATE Story is inviting people to experience chocolate in a new light on Thursday 30th October. The attraction will be hosting an exclusive Tasting in the Dark event as part of the Illuminating York Festival. From 7pm, visitors will be taken on a unique journey of sensory exploration as they take part in a chocolate tasting session without their sight.

From the toasted, dark, earthy flavours of cocoa to notes of citrus, herbal and even floral – there are a whole host of flavours contained within one piece of chocolate. Our sight significantly affects the way we taste food as our brain attempts to perceive flavours before food reaches our taste buds. Expert guides and chocolatiers will be on hand to talk guests through the process of tasting like a professional and experiencing flavours without the help of their vision.

Nikki Jacobs, General Manager at York’s CHOCOLATE Story commented:

“At our Tasting in the Dark event, we will be exploring the influence of sight on one of the world’s most popular, complex and recognisable flavours – chocolate. I look forward to welcoming our guests on the evening.”

Located in King’s Square in the heart of York, York’s CHOCOLATE Story provides a fascinating fully guided tour through the history of York’s most famous chocolate-making families and their finest creations. While other northern centres made their wealth from wool, cotton and steel, York went its own sweet way and built a city from chocolate. This great tradition continues to this day, where all over the city there are echoes of York's chocolate past.

Tickets cost £15, including a drink on arrival. To find out more information and to book visit, visit the attraction or call 0845 498 941.
