News Release - Issued by Yorkshire Air Museum
In a remarkable achievement, the Yorkshire Air Museum is proud to announce that it has again been awarded Top Specialist Attraction 2015 by Going Places travel magazine, a leading UK tourism publication. To win this accolade, the Museum has gained consistently high numbers of nominations by members of the public from all over Britain.
The Lord Mayor of York, the Rt. Hon. Councillor Ian Gillies and the Lady Mayoress Mrs. Pat Gillies made a special visit to the Yorkshire Air Museum on Thursday 19th February to celebrate the receiving of the Award Certificate together with Museum staff and volunteers.
Widely distributed across UK, “Going Places” has itself previously won the title of “Best Tourism Newspaper”. In each of the four regional editions of the magazine, it invites readers to nominate their favourite attractions, in view of friendliness and welcome, cleanliness, quality and content. As these nominations have been received from as far apart as the Isle of Wight and Scotland, there is a truly national aspect to them, and visitors are obviously using the magazine as a reference for inspiring places to visit.
Ken Darville-Smith of Going Places said: “We are very happy to recognise great visitor attractions through these awards based purely on the numerous responses we receive from our readers. It is truly exceptional for an attraction to win consecutively, which the Yorkshire Air Museum has just done, having won an award in the 2010/11and 2012/13 seasons. The Museum is clearly winning the hearts of its visitors and our congratulations go to them for this tremendous achievement.”
Museum Director, Ian Reed said, “I am very pleased that the enormous efforts of our staff and volunteers has been recognised once again by the visitors we seek to delight. What makes this award so meaningful from the other awards we have won, is that the attractions are judged by the most important people of all – our visitors. The award also reflects the huge number of positive comments about the Museum that have been posted on Trip Advisor, earning us their Certificate of Excellence for the past 5 years.”
The Rt. Hon. Lord Mayor of York added:” It is wonderful to see the work done by the team at the Yorkshire Air Museum recognised once again. We have a prominent tourism and visitor sector in the city, and we have some top class attractions, a fact which has been recognised by this award. I am delighted to be able to offer my support to the Museum / Memorial and have the opportunity to say well done to all those involved.”
