YOPA, York Older People’s Assembly, launched its 9th York 50+ Festival of 115 events with the 50+ Information Fair at the Guildhall on Thursday 12 September – 30 stands offered advice, tasters, tips and information on how to be healthy, wealthy and wise and everything in between!
The 6 overflow stands at the Spurriergate Centre proved most successful and we hope to continue our partnership with this very popular and historic restaurant next year.
Forerunners to the Festival included the annual Model Boat Regatta on which the sun shone out at Laytham this Sunday, and still to come is a Fair Trade Christmas Preview and a spirited show at St Sampson’s entitled “You Must Remember This.”
The main Festival begins on Saturday 28 September and for 9 days York offers opportunities to taste an incredibly wide variety of activities, from stimulating talks and walks to alternative therapies and health matters, from campaigns on human rights to the culture of Tibet, and from shows and films to 33 sporting activities in the Eng-AGE 50+ Games. Computer dinosaurs can become computer divas, you can polish up your French, make jams, share the hidden stories of York, create a hanging basket, visit St Leonard’s Hospice or take up bell ringing…..amongst many other attractions.
There is so much more to share between the generations in this annual 50+ Festival. The full programme of 115 events is on the web at www.yorkassembly.org.uk/festival and copies are to be found in libraries, community centres, city centre outlets and the Friends Meeting House in Friargate. Every event has its own contact details but for overall Festival enquiries ring the Coordinator, Sue Lister, on 01904 488870.
