Emerging Trends, future proofing and getting China Ready...
Businesses across York and Yorkshire are being invited get the latest tips for future-proofing their tourism business by attending the Visit York Annual Tourism Conference ‘Tourism Insights 2014’, to be hosted by BBC Radio York Presenter Adam Tomlinson and sponsored by Digital York and CityConnect. The event will take place on Thursday 4 December at York Racecourse.
Delegates will get top tips on emerging trends, future-proofing and getting ready for the recent surge in interest from China. Keynote speaker and the world’s leading expert on inbound tourism from China, Professor Dr Wolfgang Arlt, will offer a valuable insight on getting ready to welcome visitors from this growing market.
For those interested in attracting more overseas visitors, David Edwards, Head of Research and Forecasting at VisitBritain will examine recent trends in inbound tourism and explain how businesses can benefit from both emerging as well as more established inbound markets, such as Germany, The Netherlands and Spain.
Futhermore, Sharon Orrell, Head of Research and Insight at VisitEngland will reveal the latest insights on domestic tourism, explaining what holidaymakers of the future will be looking for and what this may mean for the future of the ‘staycation’.
Meanwhile if you’ve ever considered running a tourism business and what to know how, York’s most creative farming entrepreneur Tom Pearcy owner of the York Maze will share his story, divulging his secrets to success. Kate McMullen, Head of Visit York will kick start the conference by sharing the latest in York’s successes.
Kate said ‘Tourism Insights 2014 will bring together a panel of leading experts in tourism, offering delegates an invaluable overview of the current and upcoming developments in tourism which may impact on their business. Digital York will also offer delegates a clear insight into plans to make York the best digitally connected city in the UK with benefits for the visitor economy - and City Connect explaining how to maximise the benefits of city centre wi fi.
Two hundred tourism businesses are expected to attend the conference.
