News Release - Issued by City of York Council
City of York Council’s Illuminating York Festival is up for yet more recognition as it’s shortlisted for a national award.
People across the UK are being invited to vote for Dulux’s ‘Colour Moment of the Year’ top spot in the 2015 Let’s Colour Awards – and the council’s urging everyone to back its brilliant festival.
Illuminating York is now in its tenth year and attracts around 50,000 people to enjoy the varied and colourful displays. Staged by a variety of partners across the city, the advanced digital collaboration has helped the city secure UNESCO City of Media Arts status. Over the previous nine years, the festival has presented over 40 artworks from local as well as an international set of artists from Austria, Brazil, Italy, Germany, USA and the Czech Republic.
Cllr Sonja Crisp, City of York Council’s Cabinet Member of Leisure, Culture and Tourism, said: “This flagship festival was recently listed among The Guardian’s top-ten lighting festivals in Europe and this latest accolade shows how success breeds success. Please go to www.duluxcolourawards.com and vote via facebook: backing our brilliant festival will give it the support it so richly deserves.”
Liz Page, Chair of the Illuminating York Steering Group said: “Illuminating York breathes a real sense of fun and colour into York’s stunning Heritage each year and really shows off our city in a new light. It’s great that Dulux have acknowledged the festival in this way.”
Illuminating York is supported by City of York Council, Arts Council England, English Heritage, Visit York, York Minster and a range of partners across the city. It has recently joined a new network of lighting festivals in the North of England which shares best practice and new technical developments, and its membership includes Lumiere in Durham, Leeds Light Night, Enchanted Parks in Gateshead, Salford Quays and Light-Up Lancaster.
The Let’s Colour Awards 2015 judges, nominees and ‘Colour Moment of the Year’ public voting page can all be seen on the awards website www.duluxcolourawards.com with the winners being announced in April 2015.
