If you are heading to York for a city break or holiday this week, or you would just like to do something different. Well you are in for a real treat, as on the 11th of August sees a special event taking place, which is unique to York and its confectionary heritage.

A series of "York Chocolate History Tastings" are taking place over the next few months, with this months tasting taking place this Thursday at the Mansion House, St Helens Square in York and is a ticket workshop event. The art of chocolate making is synonymous with the city of York and its history.

York is home to some biggest names in the chocolate industry, "Rowntrees" created Kit Kat, Aero and Smarties whilst "Terrys" created the Chocolate Orange and the rich dark All Gold boxed chocolate collection. The industrial revolution saw the progress of the railways throughout England, thus opening up trade and industry in York with strong links to the UK's major ports, which helped ship raw materials to York and also allowed the chocolate products to be shipped around the country. This in turn made the big chocolate names of York household names around the country.

So discover York's chocolate heritage of days gone by whilst learning how chocolate is made and tasting rare and exotic chocolates from around the world. The tasting workshops will be a treat for your taste buds whilst learning, entertaining and indulging all in one.
