Special "Thirty Pieces of Silver" exhibition in York  - 12/08/2011

During the next three months the internationally renowned artist "Cornelia Parker" is presenting a unique exhibition of work, entitledThirty Pieces of Silver. Which features more than a thousand flattened silver objects will be suspended in the nave of York St Mary's Museum at Castlegate in York.

The exhibiting installation was the brainchild of Cornelia Parker, when she came up with the extremely unique idea; she then started to collect a range of silverware, the next step in the process was for Cornelia to have the silver items flattened by a "steam roller". The squashed flat silverware includes; spoons, plates, trophies, cigarette cases, candlesticks, teapots and even trombones.

Once extremely flat, Cornelia installed the exhibit at York St Mary's Museum by suspending the exhibit in the "nave" from the roof of the former church by fine wires, only a few centimetres off the ground so that they seem like they are hovering above the ground.

Cornelia Parker's installation at York St Mary's is part of Art in Yorkshire, which is supported by the Tate, which is a year long celebration of the visual arts across 19 galleries throughout Yorkshire. Entry at York St Mary's is free to the public and a great exhibition for people of all ages to see.
