Shopping at the Historic Shambles in York - 31/08/2011

If you are planning a trip to the city of York for weekend city break or a week long holiday, you will be spoilt for choice with the wide selection of attractions and places of interest around the city. One place that is always on most of York visitors to do list is the city's iconic and historic "the Shambles".

The Award Winning medieval street "the Shambles" in York, which dates back to the "Middle Ages" has previously been named Britain's ‘most picturesque street. The Shambles which is lined with 15th Century buildings, took the coveted prize in the Google Street View Awards.

The Shambles was even mentioned in the Doomsday Book of William the Conqueror in 1086, today many of the buildings on the street date back as far as the late fourteenth and fifteenth century. Currently the shops comprise of a mixture of local food and coffee shops, with a selection of souvenir shops, there is also a bookshop and a baker.
