Revolutionary Fashion at Fairfax House, York - 24/08/2011

The City of York has some of most wonderful historical architecture found in the UK and can hold its own for period buildings from times gone by. Near to the University of York in the in the centre of York at Castlegate is the Fairfax House, which is probably one of the finest surviving examples of an eighteenth-century townhouse found in the UK.

Fairfax House is owned and managed by the charity organization the York Civic Trust, which was set up to protect and enhance York's architectural and cultural heritage.

On the August 26th, Fairfax House will commence an exhibition for the next few months which will bring together both elegant and luxurious clothing of Regency and Georgian high society. To picture the theme just imagine something out of a Jane Austen novel like Pride and Prejudice, you will be on the right track.

The theme and name of the exhibition is "Revolutionary Fashion", which aims to explore the ever changing economic, political and technological influences which had an effect on taste, style and production during these periods. The exhibits will both complement and enhance the beautiful décor of Fairfax House and allow you to immerse yourself back in time to these periods of history in such a beautiful house. Standard entry is £6; admission for children under 16 is free.
