A Book Fit for a King in York - 22/08/2011

York Minster at Deangate dominates the city of York, both literally and in the figurative sense, as the huge Gothic cathedral in York Minster towers over the whole city. As this is also the seat of the Archbishop of York and thus being the prime reason for York's emergence as the second city of England during the middle ages.

So if you are looking for something different to do this week and want to partake in some history along the way visit York Minster and you can browse through a special book enjoy various celebratory events during this week, which marks the 400th anniversary of the 1611 King James Bible.

Learn how a new king created impact to secure his place in history, watch as the King James Bible unveiled and how it encouraged people to explore their own thoughts during the time of the Kings reign. Also learn why the authorities used to use it for propaganda to get their message across.

There will also be a selection of special and interesting objects which date back to the 14th century and learn how this Bible still influences our language today and how it became the most printed book in the history of the world. This special event takes place from midday to 4pm daily and admission is £3.
