    Take your students on a 70 minute journey through 2000 years of York’s murky history, as our full cast of entertaining theatrical actors bring to life gripping stories of the city's most infamous characters and events - from 71 AD when the Roman's created the City to the infamous highway man Dick Turpin in 1739.
    With stunning special effects, authentic sets, witty comedy and a host of scary surprises lurking in the Dungeon, it’s a unique and fun introduction to a range of classroom subjects. Supported by our downloadable educational resources, a class visit to The York Dungeon is linked to National Curriculum topics including: History, Performing Arts and English for Key Stages 2, 3 & 4.
    And for schools wishing to discover even more of York, add our unique City Tour where you will be guided around the City by two of our actors who tell the history and tales of the streets of York.

    The York Dungeon have launched Deadly Drama Workshops

    The Dungeon stage awaits…
    Throw your pupils into the depths of history by combining your dungeon tour with a 60 minute drama session. Give your students a practical insight into a day in the life of a Dungeon actor as they learn the worst of York's history.
    Having laughed and screamed with our actors throughout their Dungeon tour, students will be encouraged to get into character themselves by our Professional Performance Team which will bring out their theatrical side.
    Your class will love to learn how to portray the distinctive movements and characteristics of the York Dungeon characters; interactive Performing Arts Workshops with a unique Dungeon twist. It’s a great way to stimulate their learning about horrible history and all for only £3.00 extra per student.
    Deadly Drama Sessions are only available when booking a school visit to the York Dungeon.

    Our 45 minute York City Cruise is the perfect way to unwind and take in the sights.

    With live captain’s commentary, it is a great way to see York in the comfort of a heated saloon or open top deck. Recent award finalist for ‘Outstanding Customer Service’, our team will take great care of you from boarding to disembarking.

    Due to this being a public cruise, trips are often busy. Pre-booking your group ensures you benefit from having seats reserved and guaranteed places. Your group is more than welcome to eat packed lunches onboard.

    Cruise Times

    We have four guaranteed sailings at 10.30am, 12pm, 1.30pm and 3pm from February to November. Extra cruises depart between May and October, every 30 minutes from 10.30am to 3pm. Boarding Points We have 2 landings to choose from: Kings Staith Landing, York (Close to the Dungeons, Castle Museum, Clifford’s Tower and Jorvik) Lendal Bridge Landing, York (Close to Minster, Museum Gardens, Yorkshire Museum, Shops) Prices We have a special discount for school groups of 20 people or more (aged 5yrs to 15yrs), priced at £3.15 per child/teacher.

    Booking Process

    To book a time slot simply call YorkBoat on 01904 628324. We will send confirmation and then contact you 1 month prior to the cruise for final details and to forward an invoice. Payment is then due two weeks prior to the cruise date by cheque, card payment or bank transfer.
