Station 1 was located at the Gatehouse of Holy Trinity Priory, which was built in the 1200’s and demolished in 1855 to make way for Priory Street. The Priory was once a wealthy and important monastic house; but only the church remains. A Council official was posted at station 1 to check that the wagons duly appeared and that the actors were speaking their lines properly. The Council had the power to fine the guilds if their plays held up the show in any way. Given the number of performances it was vital that the wagons passed from station to station without interruption or delay.
