There has been a church on this site since Saxon times, and probably a Roman shrine before that. Only a small part of the huge medieval church remains. It was topped by a 116 ft spire, which was damaged during the Civil War siege of 1644, and finally destroyed by a lightning bolt in 1700. Walk through the carved Romanesque doorway to find the oldest stained glass in the city. Can you spot the angel playing a hurdy-gurdy? |
