The arches to the rear of Dean's Park were once part of a covered walkway linking the main buildings of the Archbishop's Palace to his Chapel (now the Library). The palace, built in the 1200s, would have been where the Purey Cust hospital now stands. The covered walkway allowed the Archbishop to walk from his home to his church without getting wet!
