Cycling City York
York offers an extensive network of off-road cycle paths and on-road cycle lanes to ensure safe access into and around the city. Whether you are using your bike to commute to school or work, to keep fit or just for fun, you are sure to find the best cycling route to fit your needs. Being centrally located, York also provides the perfect base for touring the wider Yorkshire region by bicycle.
Thanks to the Cycling City York programme funded by the DfT (Department for Transport) via Cycling England that ran between 2008 and 2011, we are now happy to see more and more cyclists enjoying our beautiful city.
Building upon the success of Cycling City York, the city received further funding from LSTF (Local Sustainable Transport Fund) to set up i-Travel York to deliver an integrated programme of interventions, travel planning, communications and events on all sustainable travel modes. The programme runs until 2015.
