Work has begun on a £15 million development project at The Grand Hotel & Spa, York – Yorkshire’s only 5-star hotel – that will see it double its number of guest rooms and open a brand new 140-seater restaurant.
Plans for the enhancements, which were submitted by the hotel’s owners, Splendid Hospitality Group, and approved by the City of York Council at the end of 2015, will see the Grade II listed building connected to the adjacent Roman House, creating over 100 additional bedrooms along with new spaces for meetings and corporate hospitality.
A new restaurant, opening by early 2017, will be housed on what was formerly a terrace area whilst the existing 107 guest rooms will all be refurbished during 2017. The Spa will be enlarged with the creation of additional treatment rooms.
Maria Florou, The Grand’s General Manager, commented: “The Grand has a reputation for first class service in an exceptional setting, so it’s fantastic that we are going to be able to offer that to many more guests – both those from outside of the area and also the residents of York. We’ve never taken our 5-star status for granted and are always looking at ways to improve, so it’s wonderful that The Grand is set to become even grander through this major investment and expansion!”
The Grand’s management are going to great lengths to ensure that there is minimum disruption during the work, which will take standards of comfort, luxury and guest experiences to a whole new level.
