A central York hotel's "green team" has been nominated for a prestigious national award.
For the third time in five years the BEST WESTERN Monkbar Hotel has been shortlisted in the Considerate Hotelier Awards Considerate Green Team category.
Considerate Hoteliers is a peer-led organisation that encourages, assists and motivates fellow hoteliers to adopt sound and sustainable environmentally friendly and socially responsible policies and practices.
Last year, the BEST WESTERN Monkbar hotel won the Green Business Tourism Gold Award - the first city-centre hotel to do so - for its continuing efforts in making the hotel as environmentally friendly as possible.
BEST WESTERN Monkbar Hotel General Manager Graham Usher said: "It is hugely rewarding for all the team here at the Monkbar to be shortlisted once again for this important national award.
"Our green policies are extremely important both to us and our customers, and to win this award would be a fantastic addition to our existing environmental accolades.
"All of the new measures put in place over the last 12 months are working well and reducing our carbon footprint. In addition, it is helping us win Government contracts and reduce our overheads."
Over the last twelve months, the city centre hotel, led by its "green team", has implemented a raft of new environmental initiatives.
These additions to its green arsenal include a focus on guest and supplier co-operation, increasing recycling further still, creating a market garden in the hotel's enclosed courtyard and installing charging points for electric cars.
It was also the first hotel in Yorkshire to install a 'Waste2Water' filtration system which literally eats waste food, thus considerably reducing the amount of waste sent to landfill.
The Considerate Hotelier Awards are being held at the Landmark London Hotel, on Thursday, June 6.
