A new wave of marketing activity designed to take what York has to offer for meetings and conference buyers to the capital will be launched this week. Building on the success of ‘York Minster to Westminster’ events held in 2013 and 14, VisitYork4Meetings will host an exclusive ‘two hours from London’ ‘Meet the Buyer’ dinner at London’s prestigious Science Museum on Tuesday 17 February.
The event will take place during International Confex Week 2015, the UK’s leading event for the Meetings, Incentives, Conference and Events industry (MICE), attracting conference and meetings buyers from across the globe; all seeking new ideas for venues in 2015 and beyond. VisitYork4Meetings will exhibit, joined by The Royal York Hotel, The Grand Hotel & Spa, National Railway Museum, Park Inn by Radisson, York Racecourse and East Coast Trains.
At this new ‘Meet the Buyer ‘dinner York’s top venues will have the opportunity to meet with selected organisers from the MICE industries in the Science Museum’s iconic ‘Making the Modern World’ gallery, which houses Stephenson's original Rocket locomotive. After the event influential buyers in this highly lucrative sector will have the opportunity to travel with East Coast Trains to York to experience it for themselves.
Marketing Manager for VisitYork4Meetings Laura Freer said, ‘York is home to an impressive range of state of the art and unusual conference venues. We’ll be using this opportunity to promote all we have to offer but also to drive home the message that York is under two hours from London by train.’
With an unprecedented £20m of investment taking place across York and Yorkshire’s key venues in 2015, we aim to further increase our profile as a business destination to buyers in London and beyond.’
Annually over 16,000 meetings, conferences and events take place in York and business tourism generates £148.9 million annual income for the city’s hotels, venues and auxiliary services; this represents around a quarter of the total £443 million annual visitor spend.
Kate McMullen, Head of Visit York, said: ‘We’re delighted to partner with East Coast Trains and the Science Museum on this new promotion. Showcasing York as an ideal business destination to a national and international audience is a key part of VisitYork4Meetings’ business tourism strategy.’
Sam Owen, Head of Commercial and Live events at Science Museum Group, said: ‘The Meet the Buyer dinner is a great opportunity to jointly showcase two of our venues, the Science Museum and the National Railway Museum, to senior London buyers and corporate markets. Our approved suppliers, Payne and Gunter, will be serving a delicious dinner in the Making the Modern World gallery, whilst White Light will provide AV, lighting and technical production for a memorable evening celebrating the diverse venues that York has to offer.’
