Christmas 2016 York Festival (From mid November till Christmas)

It’s the most wonderful time of the year and the York Christmas Festival is back bigger than ever, to transform the city into a winter wonderland with fairs, family fun and festive events.

Lots of exciting events are on offer, from The Snowman at the York Barbican to panto at York Theatre Royal and the Grand Opera House - will Prince Charming find his true love? And don’t forget to book your tickets for the York Early Music Christmas Festival to hear a brilliant line up of musicians. Just a short journey from York you’ll be enchanted by Christmas at Castle Howard, where grand interiors and sweeping parkland are dressed for the festive season.

St Nicholas Fair lines the streets with snug wooden chalets and twinkling lights from 17 November right up to 23 December. Stallholders will be selling unique gifts including jewellery, homewares, crafts and local wines and cheeses. To add the festive atmosphere, scents of hot mulled wine and roasted chestnuts will fill the air.

When it comes to Christmas shopping, you’ll be spoilt for choice with an amazing array of boutiques, markets and independent shops. Shambles Market is open daily so don’t miss the chance to buy local Yorkshire produce for your Christmas feast! And with the historic Minster as the breath-taking backdrop to the festive activities, offering carols and services for all, York is the ideal destination for your Christmas adventure.
