By Road:
From the North
From the A1 take the A61 to Thirsk then the A170 to Helmsley. 2 miles before Helmsley turn right onto the B1257 (signposted Malton) for 7 miles to Slingsby.
Turn right(brown and white tourist sign to Castle Howard). After a couple of miles and several blind summits you will come to the crossroads by the Castle Howard Great Lake . Turn left at the crossroads signposted Coneysthorpe, and after a few hundred yards you will see the village green on your left. Lime Kiln House is the last house on the left at the top of the green, facing directly back along its' length. Parking is behind the house.
From the South and West
A1 to Junction 45, then A64 east to York, bypassing York. Continue east on the A64 (signposted to Scarborough). About 8 miles from York follow the brown and white signs on the left to Castle Howard. Continuing past the main entrance to Castle Howard you will see the Great Lake on your right. At the crossroads turn right signposted Coneysthorpe, and after a few hundred yards you will see the village green on your left. Lime Kiln House is the last house on the left at the top of the green, facing directly back along its' length. Parking is behind the house.
From York
A64 east (signposted to Scarborough) for about 8 miles. You will see on the left clearly marked brown and white signs for Castle Howard. Continuing past the main entrance to Castle Howard you will see the Great Lake on your right. By Train
York is on the East Coast main line, only 2 hours from London and 2.5 hours from Edinburgh.
From Manchester (including the airport) the Trans Pennine Express goes through York and on to Malton, just 4 miles from Coneysthorpe.
